OVERVIEW

Company receives top recognition for its resilient and sustainable Medley at Southshore Bay microgrid project.

TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 16, 2023 – Block Energy, LLC is proud to announce it has been named POWER Magazine’s 2023 Distributed Energy Award winner for its innovative residential microgrid solution. This award is given to projects that creatively implement reliable and sustainable power solutions utilizing distributed energy technology. BlockEnergy is the first complete solar-plus-energy storage residential microgrid system that enables utilities to provide distributed energy at community-scale with local generation, storage and consumption for increased operability, security and grid resilience.

“Through groundbreaking research and a creative solar-plus-storage and utility-controlled model, BlockEnergy has been able to revolutionize the clean energy space,” said Rob Bennett, CEO of BlockEnergy. “We are thrilled our efforts are being recognized by POWER Magazine as a ‘model for the future of grid modernization’.”

In 2022, BlockEnergy partnered with Metro Development and Lennar Homes to launch a 37-home microgrid community within Medley at Southshore Bay, near Tampa. The community, operated and powered by Tampa Electric (TECO) has experienced great success; while Hurricane Ian caused 1.1 million power outages across Tampa Bay, BlockEnergy homes never lost power.

Because the BlockEnergy system is utility-controlled, it can operate as an independent power platform and integrates seamlessly with the grid to offer grid-edge support to our aging grid. The building blocks of BlockEnergy’s modular microgrid enable it to scale easily as the community grows. Since its inception in 2018 the POWER Distributed Energy Award has been awarded to innovators that create reliable and sustainable power solutions via energy distributing technologies. All of the winning projects in the category have incorporated renewables, energy storage, microgrids, and combined heat and power as well as other avenues to power the world while meeting business and financial goals.
